The FREE ZONE:
Anatoly's Story

Now, in 2005, after 10 years I can say I have handled those problems destroying my life. I have handled those problems due to my use of the knowledge received during studying Dianetics and Scientology. Dianetics is a technology of spiritual healing. Scientology is an applied religious philosophy that offers the exact way, following this way, everyone can get truth and simplicity of his/her spiritual self. My successes are caused by the fact that I study Dianetics and Scientology materials in the manner in which it was written by the founder — L. Ron Hubbard.

In spite of my successful life presently, such state of affairs was not given to me easily. The point is that in 1994 when I started to search for a way out from the endless troubles I got unwittingly into, this trap nearly crippled me as a person. And although I have released from the trap, many people are still there. Definitely, because I am not indifferent to the fate of my compatriots I decided to tell you what had happened to me and what I had found during my investigation.

In autumn 1994, my friend and partner Yuriy Pikulskiy, being on a business trip in Mariupol, bought a book by L. Ron Hubbard “Dianetics The Modern Science of Mental Health”. He was delighted with this book and he gave it to me.

Having read Dianetics, I realized it is what I needed! It appears, that negative experience of each person accumulates and it can have an influence on his life. Old injuries, illnesses, negative emotions – not all these things release a human from their clutches even after many, many years! Moreover, Dianetics is a precise technology with the help of which you can get rid of the influence of the past negative experiences! My friend Yuriy Pikulskiy saw in Dianetics practically the same thing as I — an effective way of increasing your ability to cope with different life situations in present time, due to the complete overcoming of consequences of past failures. We were ready to act in order to be better — it was our common point of view. The application of Dianetics consists of two persons who sit opposite each other and talk. One of them asks a question and the other answers. The person who asks the questions is called an “auditor”.

An Auditor is a person who is trained in the practical application of Dianetics. From English the word “auditor” means: “one who listens”. All the actions the auditor must implement are precise and in accordance with the procedure, described in the book Dianetics the Modern Science of Mental Health. This is the main honest reason of my success.

At first, we wanted to be auditors to each other. However, each of us was under the influence of problems in business and we realized that we needed another person to be an auditor. Than I phoned our friend Alexander Zemlyakov in Kishinev. I proposed that he study the book Dianetics and to be our auditor, under suitable conditions for all of us. Soon Alexander called me and informed me about an organization in Kishinev, the Dianetics Centre, in which there were courses for auditors. Alexander said he had started his course because of our proposal. Approximately in three months after this talk, Alexander Zemlyakov arrived to Kiev, and we began our auditing; the application of Dianetics in practice. Firstly, the results were humble, but Yuriy Pikylskiy and I believed, that it was an effective technology and our movement was in the right direction. After a while, our successes became more appreciable: each of us recollected the events of past lives, and each of us had moments of exteriorization. Such condition is when a man realizes himself to be a spiritual being and is out of his physical body. It was an actual large achievement for us!

Everything was good until in the winter of 1997, Alexander Zemlyakov became acquainted with Yuriy Titarenko and Vyacheslav Shapkarin. I had not known yet who these people were, and therefore I did not connect circumstances to their appearance; that Zemlyakov began to behave wrong. If Pikylskiy and I could figure out what this acquaintance could bring, we would have endeavored to stop Zemlyakov’s acquaintance of these people. However, at that time I had not even known these people to have decided to organize a group in Kiev practicing Dianetics.

It should be noted that in the whole world there are thousands of groups, the members of which use Dianetics to increase their capabilities and to help friends. Any man can organize a Dianetics group or become a member of such a created group. However, getting the help and support from the Church of Scientology, the members of Dianetics groups are obligated to adhere to strict moral standards. And one of the main obligations which they assume — it is the noncommercial use of Dianetics.

To my great regret, I understood only much later, the aims for which Titarenko and Shapkarin decided to organize their own «group». Then in winter of 1997, I knew only the book «Dianetics» and Zemlyakov Alexander, who was a trained auditor. In addition, I knew from my own experience that correct application of Dianetics helped a man to become more capable.

Exactly in the winter of 1997 is when I considered to be the moment when I went astray from the correct way in my life. Perhaps, it sounds pompous, but it most exactly determines the veritable sense of those events. Because before this I moved in the correct direction: with the help of the knowledge of Dianetics. I was reappraising the negative experiences of the past. I reached successes in present time and with a greater confidence looked to the future. But, after my auditor Alexander Zemlyakov - a person whom I trusted, teamed up with Titarenko and Shapkarin, my development by the way of spiritual progress stopped for a long time.

It started since that time, when Zemlyakov tried to audit Yuriy Pikylskiy and me by methods, which he had not been taught. In other words, he began to apply not the procedure of auditing, as described in the book «Dianetics», but something else. Firstly, he hid this fact from Yuriy and me. Apparently, fearing of our negative reaction. It was three months before I had known that our auditor began to use some alternative “technology”.

In spring of 1997 year, Zemlyakov acquainted me with Arthur Pilipenko who arrived to Kiev from Moscow some days before. From the first meeting Pilipenko began to assert that someone captured the Church of Scientology that was founded by L. R. Hubbard after the publication of a book Dianetics. Moreover, all the best people ran off from there and created the organization called the Free Zone. Which is engaged in the correct application of the works of L. R. Hubbard — including the correct application of Dianetics. Thus, Pilipenko referred to the printed material found under the enigmatic title Sector 9; where the unbelievable details of the biography of a certain Bill Robertson were described.

I found out later, Pilipenko Arthur had arrived to Kiev with an important «mission»: to push Alexander Zemlyakov to «rescue» planet Earth from the Church of Scientology. Mister Pilipenko had already «escaped» the Church by that time, with a theft of the works of its founder L. R. Hubbard, which were translated into Russian language. (This thief was accomplished together with the accessary Oleg Matveev. Then Pilipenko stole these materials from Oleg.) The main method of «rescue» from the Church of Scientology Pilipenko determined very simply: “It is necessary to steal more from the Church and to “say a lot of things” louder — and you are rescued”. As it turned out in the future, many leaders of Free Zone exactly used this “technology of rescue”.

Then, in the spring of 1997, the intercourse with Pilipenko brought in plenty of confusion in my life. In fact by that time, I, due to standard application of Dianetics — had obtained considerable improvement of my spiritual state. According to Pilipenko’s words the Church of Scientology was captured by some bad people, and that its founder L. R. Hubbard, sustained a defeat from those bad people and directed all his efforts to create an organization called the Free Zone. Being in a state of strong doubt of Pilipenko’s information, I asked Zemlyakov Alexander, how I should believe all these assertions? Zemlyakov answered, “unfortunately, everything was true, however, it is important for us to get Dianetic services”. *It meant, Pikylskiy and I simply needed to continue auditing with him and to go not into details, because auditing — it is an auditing in Africa too. These Zemlyakov’s words looked convincingly, and I took them for the truth. Right there was my error: I did not show due assessment. I did not investigate the situation myself, and shifted responsibility to Zemlyakov, justifying in his position that he understood everything better than I did. This was exactly the reason of my dwindling spiral during these last three years.

Now, when I look at that period of my life (from 1997 to 2000), I ask myself, what I was doing in this Free Zone, my answer — practicing pseudo-scientology in the room. I will try to explain, what I mean by these words.

The point is that, when I read the book Dianetics, I saw not only the guidance for increasing my capabilities but an effective way to improve our society. In fact, if I could help people to get rid of those things that darken their days, a happy world will come almost at once! And, obviously, the most reasonable; that it is possible to do in such a situation —to tell all people about Dianetics, and to help them to learn and apply it in practice. However, I saw that all activity of in the Free Zone passed under a sign of half underground, or “inside” existence. A man visited a group in the Free Zone and became in his/her eyes a good fellow within the limits of the “inside” — in the best case. The narrow scope of education were not enough for me. I wanted to help people and to reach out with these improvements in real life. But when I talked to Zemlyakov about this, he explained to me, that a half underground existence was a reasonable strategy for the Free Zone, because around us there were many ill-wishers and all was very difficult, etc, etc. Exactly in this semi-underground atmosphere, pseudo-scientology was practiced. I have a right to assert it because I have an experience of successful study and application of real Scientology — the applied religious philosophy. One of basic features of which is the hundred-per-cent delivery of what it promises. As to my three years staying in the Free Zone, I can say that absence of improvements of the spiritual state is the distinguishing feature of that local practice. Moreover, the spiritual state of Free Zone members gets gradually worse. I know by my state: firstly, in the process of receiving of their “services”, I was forced to justify the lack of results. It would still come, but later! Then, when my hopes of “later” dried up, I had to appear that my thoughts were somehow “wrong”. However, I saw at the same time, that such moods inside the “Free Zone” took place all over.

Thus, while I was staying in the Free Zone, a serious conflict came into my mind. From one side, the words of activists of this organization (the Free Zone) seemed correct, but from another, my own observations, thoughts and estimations. And as long as I was in the Free Zone, this contradiction became stronger. Now I realize perfectly, if my spirit was weaker, this internal conflict would bring me over to a break and then only a miracle would rescue me. However, scarcely there will be a person among my acquaintances who calls me a weak man. I tell you this not for the sake to add an authority to myself, but because I know not everybody, unfortunately, possesses a great deal of firmness — especially in situations when a danger comes from out of no where.

At the end of 1999 year, being in the town Kremenchug, I purchased a book “Introduction to Scientology Ethics” and a booklet “Research” in the local mission of the Church of Scientology. And I had effective instruments in my hands with the help of which I began to look at my doubts in detail.

In 2000, I got out of the Free Zone, because I started to understand that this area was a consciously organized trap.
